For generations, the people of Muntigunung struggled with a severe lack of clean water. Women and children were forced to walk long distances, often over rough terrain, just to fetch enough water for daily survival.
With support from a Swiss-backed NGO, water catchment buildings were introduced. These innovative structures collect and store rainwater, providing a reliable water supply for the villages. More than just water sources, these buildings have become community hubs—places where families can learn, create, and build a sustainable future.
Now, instead of spending their days on dangerous water runs, women have time to focus on education, small businesses, and artisan crafts.

Before these sustainable projects, many villagers had no choice but to travel to tourist areas—sometimes with their babies—to seek financial help.
Today, with access to water and new opportunities, the people of Muntigunung are creating their own future. They now produce handcrafted goods, process cashew nuts, and cultivate crops like rosella (hibiscus). These products are sold, providing families with a stable and dignified income.
